Google Adds NFC Support to Chrome OS

An NFC daemon has been added to the source for Chrome OS, perhaps suggesting that Google are planning to bring NFC hardware to future Chrome OS devices.

None of Google's current Chromebooks or Chromeboxes have featured NFC capabilities, but the addition of software support for the feature might indicate that a new device with NFC is in development.

The daemon, as reported by Chromespot, is still in early development, and does not provide much information about how NFC will be used by the end user in Chrome OS. However, Google's promotion of two-step verification could be extended through the increased simplicity of NFC, with users perhaps being able to tap their NFC-enabled phone to their Chrome OS device to confirm their identity.
