Capify To Launch NFC Baseball Caps

Capify, a London-based startup, plans to be one of the first companies to bring NFC-enabled clothing to the consumer market, in the form of baseball caps. The company hopes to run a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise sufficient funds for a general launch of its products and services.

The company has chosen to highlight the social element of having an NFC tag embedded into a baseball cap, allowing users to quickly and uniquely share their Facebook, Instagram or Twitter details. Such a strategy might prove to be successful, as 'snapback' and 'fitted' baseball caps are becoming increasingly popular amongst the social media savvy youth in many European countries.

The promotional material also demonstrates the use of the cap's NFC tag for quickly launching actions or applications on the wearer's phone or tablet.

No details on pricing have been announced, but the company has suggested that, along with directly selling brand new hats, consumers will also be able to have their existing caps retrofitted with a Capify NFC tag.

Capify's Kickstarter campaign will be launched on the 28th of January, 2013.
